Now that you have been thinking about ways to be more active outside, let’s focus on the next step – actual exercise. Everyday activities are not as beneficial as any activity that gets your heart rate up, and keeps it up for 20-30 minutes. A slow stroll is better than sitting, but a brisk walk is even better! If you find that your dog is inhibiting your brisk walk by stopping every five minutes, simply take your furry friend home and continue your walk. The nonstop movement at a faster pace counts as exercise. You can always incorporate other tricks such as parking the farthest from the store door or walking the aisles inside big box stores when shopping. You can get your exercise walking nonstop around the outer aisles for 20 minutes, then do your shopping.
Sometimes it takes stopping and thinking each day about what you can do to be more active. Challenge yourself to find exercise in everyday activities. Your body, mind, and heart will thank you.
